Walnut Peppermill and Salt Shaker

A peppermill and salt shaker made out of claro walnut.  Finish is gloss acrylic (sort of my favorite finish these days).  Walnut has a very pungent small, but I like the figure, especially the voids in these pieces.

These are a gift for our friends Laurie and Bruce.  They are two of the nicest people we know and are always there to help.  Laurie is my colleague at Chabot and I consider her to be one of my mentors.  Her husband Bruce is in construction and we’ve asked him for help numerous times–whether borrowing tools or having him do a preliminary inspection on a house we made an offer on.  I wanted to give them a gift, and I had made this peppermill and salt shaker, so there you go!

The first pic is with a flash.  The second is without a flash.  The true color of the wood is probably in between.
