Box for Lydia

I made a box (sort of a jewelry box) for my cousin Lydia for Christmas 2007. Yes, I finally finished it in August 2008. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures before shipping it to her!  Thankfully, Lydia took pics for me (thank you thank you thank you) and they are posted here.

The front and back of the box are purpleheart. The sides are maple. The tails of the dovetails were cut with a router, but the pins were cut by hand. The top is aromatic cedar and the bottom is thin birch plywood set in a groove that runs around the box. The finish is tung oil. Lydia’s name was carved freestyle with a Dremel rotary tool.
